London Marathon 2023 · 23 April 2023 ·
Inspired by friends of ours who ran the marathon in October (thanks Barney) and Will who we supported for years and years, we took the plunge and won a charity place for the 2023 London Marathon, running to raise funds for Hospice UK.
On 1 October 2019, Nic's mum lost a long and hard fought battle with cancer. She had been diagnosed 7 years earlier and although she never showed it, she spent her last few months in a considerable amount of pain and discomfort. It was with visible relief that she was finally offered a place at the amazing St Michael's Hospice, Hereford. As a former nurse, she knew that this would undoubtedly be the most comfortable place for her to spend her final weeks. The Doctors, Nurses, the volunteers and everyone, without exception, felt that it was a privilege to be looking after patients at the end of their life. They all went above and beyond their day jobs to make sure that Mum was as comfortable as possible and to make sure she made the most of those final weeks. They even offered facials, manicures and massages.
Such is the devastating impact of terminal illnesses that all of us know someone whose final weeks and months have been made more bearable by the kindness and compassion of hospices. Lisa lost both her in-laws and her uncle to cancer and saw first-hand the difference that such charities make to loved ones and their families. Having previously run for Sobell House, Lisa too is delighted to have the opportunity to continue to support the amazing work of hospices with your generous support.
Hospices are truly amazing places but they rely heavily on donations and we would love it if you could spare a couple of minutes to make a donation to Hospice UK to help make the end of life care for others as amazing as it was for Nic's mum and Lisa's in-laws.
We have trained hard through snow, wind and rain and are now as ready as we ever will be. Let's do this!
Thank you so much
Lis and Nic
