London to Paris in 24 hours · 30 April 2010

Founded in 2003, Occtopus, or the Oxford Colon Cancer Trust charity, is a leading Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Colorectal Cancer charity. We pioneer new treatments and research for colorectal cancer, colitis and Crohn’s and influence how they are treated across the NHS.

Story

London to Paris in 24 hours on a bike. All of us are going to cycle continuosly (not in relay).

We're not sure if this is possible, but we know that it's for a good cause. They say that everyone will at one point be affected by cancer, either personally or through someone they know so I feel it's an important cause to support.

We plan to leave Big Ben at 00.01 hours on Friday 30th April, picking up the Eurotunnel at 05.48. We get a brief rest on the train, but lose an hour with the time change. Arriving in Calais at about 07.15, we have the rest of the day to "gently" cycle the remaining 200 miles or so. We hope to arrive at the Eiffel Tower sometime on Friday evening. Most charity cycle rides from London to Paris doing it in relay or take 3 or 4 days, so doing this in one day non-stop is going to be difficult.

All money raised by this cycle will go to Occtopus. This is a charity based in Oxford which aims to improve the quality of care for people with bowel cancer or other major bowel conditions.
