Story
The Cause: Raise money for Safe Passage who help unaccompanied refugee children join their relatives in the UK via legal routes.
The Challenge: Cycle 700km (400 miles) from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh Waverley Station in under 36 hours.
The Details: Leave London Kings Cross at 0400 on Thursday 10th June 2021 and arrive at Edinburgh Waverley by 1600 on Friday 11th June.
The Contenders: Three of the finest cyclists from Bristol, Patrick "tender thighs" Drummond, Josh "mr mathematics" Flack, Keir "muffin top" Stone-Brown
The Route: A sleepy slide out of north London via the iconic pass of Swains lane, we quickly dip under the M25 and head into the Hertfordshire hills, roll through Bedfordshire and onto the Lincolnshire plains. A nippy swerve around Leeds and we're 400km in. Didn't that pass quickly? A 4 hour cat nap at a friendly tavern in Ripon and back on the road again at Thursday midnight. Now it starts. Hill after Hill. Yorkshire Dales, North Pennines, Kielder Forest Park, the misnamed Lowlands. A who's who of places you don't wanna cycle through in the pitch black with over 250 miles in the legs. The torture is softened by the beautiful landscape. If only we could see it. With the sounds of Bagpipes edging closer we dive down into beautiful Edinburgh. Over 700km in less than a day and a half . A wee dram of whiskey and catch the Friday night sunset atop Arthurs Seat. Or so goes the plan...
