We support families and aid research to find a cure for this rare condition

Story

Vickey's son, Oliver, has Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood or AHC for short.

Never heard of it? No neither have most Doctors, Nurses, Paediatricians, Neurologists etc. It is an extremely rare and complicated neurological condition.

What does it mean? Well in truth something different to each person and family affected.

To Oliver it means most days without warning muscles in his body suddenly become paralysed, this can be muscles affecting his arms and legs or those affecting his breathing, eyes, bladder, swallowing etc. So he can be walking along and suddenly his leg and arm will stop working and he cant walk anymore.

We never know how long these episodes will last, they could be hours, days or weeks and occasionally he may never fully recover.

Vickey says "If you were me you'd do anything you could to help him, wouldn't you. So despite having 5 lots of knee surgery in the last 5 years I decided to get together a team to cycle 280 miles from London to Paris in 4 days in an attempt to raise much needed awareness for this rare condition".

All money raised for Oliver and his fellow AHC champions will go to support research into finding a better treatment for AHC and hopefully one day a cure for this awful condition.

We are also doing 71 miles with the New Forest conquerer ride on 1st July as training!
