UNICEF works to build a better world for every child, every day. A world where every child has the chance to fulfil their potential and grow up healthy and safe. We work in 190 countries and territories around the world, reaching more children than any other humanitarian organisation.

Story

To mark the tenth edition of the race, Crew Recruitment and Development Director David Cusworth and Digital Media Manager Paul Hankey are taking on the challenge of cycling 260 miles from London to Plymouth in two days.

The pair will set off from London after the Clipper Race fleet departs on its 40,000 mile adventure, and will cycle to Plymouth, the start port of the first ever Clipper Race back in 1996.

“As commuting cyclists who average 12 miles a day, we’re not under estimating the blisters or need for padded shorts,” admits David.

“But that pales into insignificance when compared to the challenges being faced on a daily basis by far too many children around the world.

“When we first looked at the partnership with Unicef, our goal was to achieve more by working together. Hopefully this will make a difference, no matter how small.”

Adding, Paul says: “The Clipper Race crew are obviously taking on a huge challenge by doing the race. As staff, we unfortunately can’t participate in the race itself but we’re all really keen to do our bit and support Unicef too however we can.

“As complete road cycling novices this won’t be easy but I’m sure the knowledge that our crew are out racing across the Atlantic Ocean at the same time will help spur us on our goal.

“Luckily navigation won’t be an issue as Nicky Patterson (also from Race HQ) will be assisting us from a support vehicle at certain points along the route!"
