Story

DUE TO AN UNFORTUNATE ROAD ACCIDENT NIGEL & JOHN'S LONG WAY ROUND BRITAIN EVENT HAS BEEN ABORTED. PLEASE KEEP DONATING AS THEY INTEND TO COMPLETE THE TRIP EITHER LATER THIS YEAR OR NEXT YEAR.

Diary Entry Day 5-Sun 11th July

The rest of the trip has been postponed due to injuries received by John Wilkinson (two broken ribs) after a fall from his motorcycle. Please keep donating as they intend to complete the trip either later this year or next year.

Diary Entry Day 4-Sat 10th July

Rode through Ilfracombe and Minehead before crossing the bridge into Wales. We then rode through Barry, Bridgend, Llanelli, Carmarthen, Tenby, Pembroke and into Rosepool. Rode 362 miles today, that's 1205 in total.  The weather was pretty poor (heavy rain) by the end of the day.

Diary Entry Day 3 - Fri 9th July:

We are now at the guest house in Instow, I have had a cup of coffee so here are the pictures and a few words. Weather not so good this morning (it rained) but it got better in the afternoon. Did all the usual touristy bits, Lizard Point, Lands End before heading north east along the Cornish coast and into Devon. Looking forward to a beer and a curry in Instow. 211 miles today, that's 843 in total.

Chat tomarrow Nigel.

Diary Entry Day 2 - Thu 8th July:

(txt msg) Hi Steve. Day two report. I will not be able to send email as there is no wireless internet here. We are in the hotel in Mullion. 254 miles today, that's 632 total.

Diary Entry Day 1 - Wed 7th July:

After leaving you guys in Maidenhead, John and I proceeded toward Folkestone, on the way we decided to include Whitstable, Ramsgate, Deal and Dover in the journey before going to Folkestone.  This meant we did not leave a gap in the coast roads we visited, it also meant that by the time we arrived at the Castle Inn in West Lulworth we had spent the best part of 11 hours in the saddle.  In total we did 378 miles on the first day.  I have attached some pictures

Chat more tomorrow, Nigel.

Our Page:

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page in aid of Age Concern Slough and Berkshire East.

Nigel Murphy and John Wilkinson are setting off for the adventure of a lifetime. We have been riding motorcycles for years and as many riders have done we joke about 'one day we should...'

Well that day has come. On 7th July we set off from Maidenhead on our 4000 mile journey around Britain following the coastline all the way. The journey will pass through busy towns, beautiful British scenery and some very desolate areas miles from anyone where some knowledge of repairs and plenty of fuel will be needed to save a potentially very long walk. We plan to complete the journey in no more than 14 days riding almost 300 miles every day!

We will be going for a practice run on the Long Way Round Berkshire motorcycle ride in aid of ACSABE on Sunday 4th July. Although the 100 miles or so on 4th July is just a scratch on our mammoth trip. Nigel will be riding his trusted 1991 Triumph Daytona 1000 and John will be riding his faithful Kawasaki ZX-10R. Come along on 4th July, show your support and wish us luck on our challenge.

We are raising sponsorship for our journey with all money raised going to Age Concern Slough and Berkshire East. If you can spare a little then please show your encouragement and sponsor us. You can do this by sending your details and sponsorship money to the Age Concern fundraising team or on our justgiving page.
