Story

Donate today to support the patients and staff at Longreach House. They have set themselves the challenge of completing a steps challenge; walking the length of the UK in 30 days so that they can purchase much needed gym equipment for the mental health hospital in Cornwall.

About Longreach

One in four people in the world will be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives. Around 450 million people currently suffer from such conditions, placing mental disorders among the leading causes of ill-health and disability worldwide. Source: World Health Report.

When a person’s care cannot be safely managed at home, Longreach House, an acute mental health admissions unit in Redruth, offers assessment & treatment of people over 18 with a mental health condition, who predominantly are from the west of the county and the Isles of Scilly.

Coming into hospital can be an incredibly distressing time for our patient group, causing numerous feelings and emotions to arise. We want to make their stay as beneficial as possible and that’s where the Land's End to John O'Groats Steps Challenge comes in!

Physical Activity

Participation in regular physical activity can increase our self-esteem and can reduce stress and anxiety. It also plays a role in preventing the development of mental health problems and in improving the quality of life of people experiencing mental health problems.

We want to raise enough money to purchase some much needed gym equipment for the Longreach mental health hospital in Cornwall. This equipment will be accessed by patients and staff from all these units.

We know the benefits of exercise for our mental health and this equipment will extend the opportunities to exercise and engage in activity at all times of the day, benefiting a wide range of our patients.

The Challenge

The patients and staff of Longreach Hospital are working together to complete the Land's End to John O'Groats Steps Challenge to raise funds to purchase some much needed gym equipment.

We want to encourage patients to track and record the distance they have walked in a day either in the gym, garden or around the grounds, with the aim of each ward working together to complete 874 miles within 30 days.
