Story
I am now 5 weeks into training for my fight on Friday 8th December and it's been tough. I couldn't have done it without the support of my coaches and the men and ladies I train with on Old Kent Road. Alongside training, we are also raising money for an important charity that helps children and young people fight the fight of their lives.
Joni's Army is a charity that raises funds for young people to access treatment and equipment that does not fall within the umbrella of the NHS. We want to be able to help as many children and young people as we can, in Joni's name.
I'll be fighting at the London Irish Center in Camden on Friday December 8th. First fight is 7.30pm.
About Joni
Joni was a very brave fighter, battling Ewing's Sarcoma for over 4 years, she endured countless rounds of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and trial treatments, with added supplementation and alternative therapies. She was strong and brave the whole way along, but sadly, they had to say goodnight to her on September 6th 2015. After a brave and courageous fight right until the very end, she got tired and fell asleep at only 9 years old.
In her honour, they started a Joni's Army to help children and young people, who, like Joni, have to smile in the face of adversity. As Joni's Army, they strive to give life-altering gifts of equipment and medical goods to the children who need them most and help others receive treatments to better their quality of life; we know first hand, how much these things mean to the little people.
Through organising events and taking part in challenges, we aim to raise money to help children who suffer life limiting and life-threatening illnesses receive equipment and treatments that do not fall within the NHS umbrella.
