Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the Cheltenham half marathon this September, it took me no time at all to think of a charity to run for. I know so many charities that do amazing work and I'd love to run for all of them, however I feel worried about the current state of the ocean and want to do my bit to help. I have already adopted 2 sharks from Shark Trust, donated to friends of the earth for bees and currently donate monthly to WWF for tigers. I wanted a way of saying thank you to Shark Trust for everything they do for the ocean. Last summer I finished second year with a jewellery collection all about the damage humans have caused the oceans. Among all of the other endangered sea creatures, sharks really grabbed my attention. They aren't as cute as dolphins and turtles and often get forgotten on charity pages like WWF, and I have always had a love and respect for them from a very young age. I want to therefore give the money I raise to the UK based charity Shark Trust. If you check out their website you can see all of the amazing things they do to conserve and protect UK sharks.
Taken from Shark Trust-
All of our projects, campaigns and policy actions aim to drive progress towards our 3 key goals:
- SPECIES PROTECTION - protection of endangered species through legislation and effective conservation action. Our Saving Species projects place science at the heart of conservation action.
- FISHERIES MANAGEMENT - fisheries managed for sustainability to prevent declines in non-threatened species. We're striving to transform fisheries to prevent population decline through overfishing.
- RESPONSIBLE TRADE – we seek to promote responsible trade and reduced demand for non-sustainable shark products.
Taken from Sharks World-
In the last decades some species populations have decreased up to 90 percent, and some others, up to 70 percent due to anthropogenic causes that kill them directly and indirectly. Disinformation and slow reproduction do not help them to improve the recovery rate of these animals.Today, sharks face an uncertain future full of risks in a world troubled by environmental problems. If the rate of extinctions increases considerably, in a few years, the seas may be without sharks bringing an enormous amount of environmental consequences with this. Action needs to be taken; there is still time!
From me -
Please help me reach my goal and give back to an amazing charity that supports the sea creatures that we cannot directly help ourselves. I would be so grateful for the donations and can't wait to run the race for a charity I am very passionate about.
