Story

In January 2011 my family’s world was turned upside down when my wonderful Dad, David was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He fought a very tough, but brave battle, never complaining or wanting to cause a fuss, but the cruel disease was just too much for him and he lost his fight in June 2013; the saddest day of my life.

Nothing can prepare you for the heartache felt when losing someone you care about so much, but having someone like Tenovus to turn to for support really does help you to carry on.

I am completing this trio of challenges to raise money for Tenovus because I want to give something back to a charity that have given my family so much. Never being one to do things by halves, I have decided to complete not one, not even two but three gruelling challenges over the course of three months.

I’m starting off gently with the London Landmarks half marathon in March. Then, despite saying never again, I’m going to attempt to complete the London marathon in April, in a faster time than I managed several years ago. Finally, to go out with a bang in May I’m going to take part in 10-Y-Fan. This involves climbing Pen-Y-Fan mountain in the Brecon Beacons 10 times (up and back down) in just 24 hours. The total distance covered here will be 40 miles with a climb each time of 886m.

The dignity and strength Dad showed through his illness was inspiring and I decided if I could mirror his strength and have just half of his determination then that will get me through these challenges. My Mum always says I’m my Father’s Daughter so here’s hoping!

Tenovus Cancer Care brings practical advice, emotional support and treatment to where it matters most; the heart of the community. They help cancer patients and their loved ones cope, and through vital research they offer hope. A truly, worthy charity.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and read my story.
