Thank you for visiting our “alternative!” wedding gift list! We hope you can join us to celebrate our wedding on October 26th and if you would like to get us a wedding present a donation to YPWD would mean so much to both of us.
YPWD are a small but growing charity based in Berkshire who support the complex and challenging needs of people (and their carers) suffering with young onset dementia which is classed as anyone under the age of 65. Dementia is often only associated with the elderly and for younger people suffering their needs can be very different as many people of a younger age are still working and have an active social life. Traditional services are often designed to meet the needs of older adults, and so YPWD was set up in 2012 to help with filling the gap in providing help and services for those much younger.
Sarah’s dad Simon was diagnosed aged just 53 as well as having symptoms for several years before this. As a family we were very lucky to be living in an area with such an amazing charity on our doorstep who were able to provide fun and safe activities for Simon and support the family as a whole. Workshops range from forming a choir, to gardening to running and even kayaking! There is a really good video on the homepage of YPWD http://www.ypwd.info/ if you are interested in seeing more and what your donation would go towards.
As many of you know Simon sadly passed away in April this year and we both can’t think of a better way to remember his life. Hopefully we can raise some much needed funds to help the quality of life of others living with this awful disease.
Thank you again and we can’t wait to see you at the wedding!
