Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am raising much needed funds for a charity called DBA UK, in support of a five year old little boy from York called William Rhodes.

William suffers from a very rare bone marrow failure disease called Diamond Blackfan Anaemia (DBA) which affects approximately 125 people in the UK and around 700 worldwide.

At the age of 5 William has already received over 65 life saving blood transfusions and is on weekly treatment five times a week over 8 hours at a time to help remove the excess iron from his major organs, caused by the numerous blood transfusions.  If not treated the iron overload would be fatal.

To give William the chance of a treatment free life he will need a bone marrow transplant. The best possible chance of a successful transplant would be from a brother or sister.

DBA UK are a very small charity and are in much need of funds to help with research into causes and cures. I also want to raise awareness of this very rare illness. William's parents, Caroline & Ben, and myself would like to thank all that donate and also say a massive thank you to all who give blood - without those people William would not be with us today.

Remember: Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never share them with anyone or send you unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. They'll make sure Gift Aid (an additional 28%) is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer, too. That means more money goes to the charity, faster, with JustGiving.

So please dig deep and donate now.
