Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Running a marathon has always been on my to do list. I got into running in 2003 , in my early 20s, when I was on my travels with lots of time on my hands. Loved the freedom that came with it.
I enrolled in the first Brighton marathon after travels, having lived there for a few years, to target my marathon achievement before I turned 30. Injury to my achilles 3 weeks before the start scuppered my hopes, having trained for many weeks and raising money. I was seriously disappointed.
Roll forward 10 years, 2 precious little ones later, (Molly 7 and Eddie 3), settled in Guernsey, I watched year after year friends cross the London marathon finish line. In 2018 I submitted by public ballot application and in October was surprised (and terrified) to have received the congratulatory email. Taking the challenge, I've lost weight, got fit and am ready to give it my best shot.
My family has been so supportive to help me find the time to train, which, with 2 children, a full time career and a home to run has been crazy. Thank you. It's my 39th birthday a couple of days before the marathon, so if I get over that finish line, I will be a decade from my last attempt and achieving before turning 40.
Started fundraising on 17 April 2019. Why so late? Worried about further injury and feeling guilt of accepting hard earned money for not following through as before. But I'm here now.
Les Bourgs Hospice - touches so many hearts of the Guernsey community. Personally, I have several treasured memories of the invaluable work this donation only Hospice performs. Watching my close family see out their final days there I couldn't fault the care of the fabulous carers and staff who are part of this wonderful cause, which I am delighted to support.
Every penny donated will spur me on and I thank you all.
