Story

7th July

I am closing this page with a great deal of appreciation from each person who has taken the time to donate to this page.

Last week, I was part of a great team of volunteers who were announced as St John Ambulance Volunteer of the year 2015. This is an awesome achievement and a great honor. I will carry out my duties with as much passion and vigor that my repairing body allows me to.

I also went to discuss the type of chairs that I will be purchasing on behalf of each and every one of you. Unfortunately, I am unable to place a plaque on the wall or make over one of the waiting rooms.....far too much red tape. But I have decided that I will buy reclining chairs. I am positive that they will be appreciated by those awaiting news of loved ones

10th June

I really have no words for the fantastic support that I have received from every single person with this very personal challenge. It has exceeded all of my first thoughts and hopes of fundraising and that is down to each of you.

There has been many people who have said that I am an inspirational person for doing this. I have to be totally honest  and say that I really do not see this in myself. I wanted to repay all of the medical staff for the excellent work that they do on a daily basis. If, by me turning a small cog in the overall workings and that someone is inspired to continue with their fight, then I guess I am inspirational........

One of the chairs purchased from this page will be donated to the late Brian McCauley, a friend and SJA colleague. I am currently designing a plague that will accompany the chair into one of the waiting rooms. I will also look at a design for the overall challenge.

QEHB have advertised this story on their website and there may be a possibility that the local press will also run the story. I will be appealing to local businesses who may be interested in donating the chairs or offering a BOGEF offer.

Thank you sooooo much for your support I really appreciate it

1st May

A fifth increase in target and six times the original target. Many thanks to those who have made this possible, especially today. You know who you are

I have been overwhelmed on many occasions at the generosity of people in supporting this challenge. I can't thank you enough.

This time last year, I was in Scotland, bulk loading my stomach in order to get a good nights sleep to start the Ben Nevis walk. Today and for several more months ahead, I will be undergoing a different kind of daily challenge. Probably more challenging than the 13 hours spent on Ben Nevis

********************************************************************************************************

Let's do this guys................................

I have received notification from QE that all monies raised will be used for the purchase of comfortable chairs for CCU waiting room. I will be having a conversation at some point in the future with CCU managers to decide on the best route forward.

Having just 'smashed' the £1000 target, I have made a fourth one. Thanks you ALL so very much xxx

**********************************************************************************************************

Two weeks into this challenge and I having set the original target of £300 and I have raised it twice more, I am completely in awe of the support that I have received with this. Thank you, each and every one of you.

There are still two weeks left.......what will the final total raised in one short month I wonder?

I have managed to climb the stairs over 130 times so far. And yes, when I climb other peoples stairs, this is added to the tally sheet. If I have a windfall, I'll add a little extra to my pot. I owe the QE my life! So, I would imagine that there would be around £30 + coming in from me personally. Not alot I know but every £1 helps. There are others who have said that they will match whatever there is in my pot and some that are still to be paid this month. It's looking good guys, let's kept up the momentum. The challenge finishes 2 weeks today

19th April - Wowsers.... £500 in less than a week. I'm increasing the target to £1000. I know that this may be a little adventurous but nothing ventured, nothing gained. I have every faith in my friends and family supporting me with this

Once again, many thanks to those who have donated.

**********************************************************************************************************

Thanks to all of those who have donated, I have already exceeded the £300 target in four days. From the bottom of my heart thank you all.

Today, 17th April, I have increased the target to £500. Like I have already said, I am unsure how much a comfy chair will cost, I will have a look into this but the increase will hopefully buy 2. There are 4 CCU's and it would be awesome to buy a bunch of comfy chairs, maybe creating a chill out zone....who knows. I guess it all depends on the QE.

Thanks again all, let's do this and some.........

**********************************************************************************************************

Following a subarachnoid hemorrhage on the 10th March, I spent 19 days in hospital. Undergoing major surgery to fix the issues going on in my brain and all through my groin.

Yesterday, 13th April, a St John Ambulance colleague told me that I was inspirational in rising to a challenge. This really touched me.

This time last year following being challenged I was one of several training hard for what was then the biggest challenge of my life, walking Ben Nevis. I’d lost weight and my muscles were nicely toned and I was focused on completing the walk.

Following my recent stay in hospital, those said muscles have wasted away. I have to regain and rebuild those muscles and that in itself is a challenge. My strength is building by the day and I know it will take time, far more time than I would actually like but I will take as long as I need to get well again.

I have set myself a little fundraising challenge that I hope some of you would like to support to………

Each time I walk up and down my stairs at home, I will put 10p into a box. This may not seem much but trust me stairs are challenging me every day. And I am currently on Statutory Sick Pay!!! As I strengthen and get out more, I will take the stairs at hospital visits etc, instead of the lift.

Whilst I was in hospital, my fantastic family had to endure hours of sitting on rather uncomfortable chairs in the waiting room of the QE. I would like to buy a comfortable chair for someone else’s family to sit in whilst playing the waiting game that my family had to.
