Marie Curie is here for anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from, and those close to them. Whatever the illness, wherever you are, we’re with you to the end. We bring 75 years of experience and leading research to the care we give you at home, in our hospices and over the phone.

Story

Rachel was a 35 year old woman, ICU nurse, mum of 2 amazing children, wife, sister, daughter, niece, granddaughter, cousin, friend and all round amazing person, (but I am biased being her older sister). Rachel loved life and she cared and went out of her way to look after people. Rachel would love to be doing this with me, but unfortunately I will have to do it in her memory.

Rachel fought Cholangio Carcinoma using every method available to her, unfortunately on the 19th February 2017 she passed away in the Marie Curie Hospice Bradford.

Rachel's story

After the birth of her second child Rachel repeatedly went to her GP with back pain; for 7 months she was told it was muscular and to take paracetamol. After 3 trips to A&E with pain a locum GP advised scans. The scans showed a tumour in the pancreas and bile ducts, a biopsy confirmed it was cancerous and inoperable, only palliative treatment could be offered in the UK. It felt like our world was collapsing – I can’t begin to describe the horror and Rachel’s first thoughts were of her two babies.

Rachel went on to research and have many different treatments in Germany and Latvia funded by my parents and the generosity of people through fundraising.

During Rachel's brief period of remission she set up a charitable trust called Love Hope Trust to help people in a similar situation to her, and helped lots of people.

I wanted to continue Rachel's legacy of loving generosity and would like your help to sponsor a day at Marie Curie in her name.

Please give generously to this amazing charity who cared so beautifully for Rachel in her last hours and never asked anything in return.
