Bupa Great North Run 2012 · 16 September 2012 ·
In September I shall be taking part in the Great North Run which will not only be a gigantic personal challenge, (all 13.1 miles of it!) but will also give me the opportunity to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital who have provided superb care and support for my Nephew Rhys.
Rhys has Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood (AHC) - a very rare neurological condition where the sufferer has episodes of paralysis on one side of their body for periods of time. It also comes with a number of other problems - epilepsy, dystonia, learning difficulties, ASD/ADHD traits and behavioural issues.
It was GOSH who were able to diagnose AHC when Rhys was 5 and put him on the correct medications for all his difficulties. He is now able to live a relatively normal life on a day to day basis with ongoing monitoring from a number of experienced teams.
GOSH have been able to help not only Rhys but also my Sister to support and care for him and so it feels great to be able to raise money to give something back to them. ANY SIZE donation is greatly appreciated.
