Story
On 9th June myself and an amazing group of friends (Crowhurst Book Club members) will walk from Rye via Camber Sands and back in order to raise funds for the Sara Lee Trust. The Sara Lee Trust have been instrumental to my emotional wellbeing ever since I was diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer to bone in July 2017.
Learning that my Breast Cancer (which was thought to have been surgically treated in 2015) had spread to my femur, ribs, spine and pelvis was devastating and terrifying in equal measure. My Oncologist referred me to the Sara Lee Trust who provide alternative therapies for those with life threatening diagnoses in the form of counselling, aromatherapy, yoga and acupuncture amongst other therapies. Sara Lees amazing counsellor and therapists quite literally picked me up and put me back together again showing me that there is indeed life to be had after such a devastating diagnosis.
So, whilst walking 10 K isn't exactly running a marathon for me it will feel like it, last Summer I had my right femur replaced at Stanmore Hospital when the cancer invaded the bone leaving me unable to mobilise without crutches. Since my surgery I have learnt how to use my muscles again and gradually built up my stamina so that I am able to walk independently without a limp.
It is important to me to say thank you to such an amazingly empathetic, professional team of therapists whilst I am still able to do so and I am so honoured that my dear friends have agreed to walk every step with me. I know many of you are inundated with requests for charitable donations but even if you can afford £5.00 it all adds up and I know so many people will benefit hugely just as I have.
Many thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Lots of love,
Lucy and the Crowhurst Book Club walkers.
