Theodora Giggle Doctors bring joy and laughter to children living with illness, disability and serious health challenges in hospital. Giggle Doctors are specially trained performers who help reduce stress and anxiety, create opportunities for play and improve children’s experience of hospital.

Story

This year I AM going to run the London Marathon and aim to raise £1,850 for the wonderful Theodora Children’s Charity. I would love you to donate to this amazing cause and support me in this huge feat. It's 26.2 miles on the day, but to get there I’ll be doing at least 200+ miles in training.

Why this Charity? Why donate?

As many people know my son Teddy is deaf, and whilst we haven’t had any overnight stays in hospital, we’ve had many, many, many appointments in different hospitals and departments. This has given me a small insight into the anxiety, frustration and fear you can feel as a parent with a child that has additional needs. It’s also given me a window into Teddy’s world of these boring, and on occasions, painful appointments. From my experience, I can only imagine what a breath of fresh air a Giggle Doctor might bring to a child and their parents in what can be the hardest and most stressful time of their lives.

Oh, what’s a Giggle Doctor? Well, they are professional performers, dressed as fun doctors! They are trained to bring fun, joy and laughter to isolated children in hospital, hospices and specialist centres.

I think Giggle Doctors are incredible. They come from a wide range of backgrounds and bring with them a variety of skills. Among the team are actors, entertainers, magicians, musicians and singers. They are all dressed as doctors but with a fun or quirky upgrade to the usual doctor’s coat. Dr Snug rides to work on a tiny skateboard, Dr Jammi thinks he’s the world's best dancer, Dr Dovetail doesn’t realise she has pants on her head, Dr Easy Peasey is half chicken, and the craziness goes on.

It costs £175 for one Giggle Doctor to visit a hospital for 4 hours, where they could see up to 15 children - not including the parents and hospital staff who benefit from the visit as well! If you can donate the cost of a cup of coffee, £10, £20 or whatever you can afford, it would be greatly appreciated by Theodora and myself. I can’t do this on my own, so: I’ll do the running, you do the donating ;-)
