We aim to support both newly diagnosed with breast cancer facing the possibility of mastectomy, and also those further down the line who are considering reconstructive surgery, to be able to meet and talk to other women who have been through similar experiences helping make an informed choice.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As many of you already know my cousin was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in September 2021. As if this wasn't bad enough she was also pregnant at the time. She underwent grueling treatment throughout her pregnancy and then went on to have a double mastectomy with reconstruction. Unfortunately the cancer has returned and she has now had further surgery to remove the implants and tissue in the surrounding area. When I received a ballot place in the London Marathon I knew  that I wanted to run on behalf of a charity that has supported her in some way.

We had a discussion about which charity to choose and it was so difficult to decide as so many charities have helped her in so many ways (and I will hopefully do further fundraising for these at another date). However, Keeping Abreast is still a relatively small charity and my mum volunteers here, after her elective mastectomy (due to our dodgy genetics). They support women in a range of ways - support groups, discussions about the process, providing gifts to those going through treatment including counseling. They also support those who have been told that they are BRCA carriers and considering having elective mastectomy.

So my running journey started January 2022 when I joined Stevenage Striders. I completed their 0-5k running programme and have loved carrying on from there. I went into the ballot for London expecting that I would never get chosen! However, I was one of the 'lucky' ones and so now with training well under way I thought it was time to set up my page. So you can follow my journey on here!

Thank you for all your help and donations - it really means the world to me!
