We focus on the needs of vulnerable Ethiopians at grass roots level. Our partners know the context and solutions; we listen and provide appropriate support. Partnerships will continue as long as there’s a clear need and opportunities to make a lasting impact.

Story

In November I will be travelling to Ethiopia to visit the partner organisations of Ethiopiaid.

UPDATE - 28.6.2013

Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me for Ethiopiaid - I have been overwhelmed in the last few days at people's support and generosity. Last night, along with the most supportive running buddy ever, Joe Grigg, we ran 20km to raise money. Once the final two pledges have been paid we will have raised nearly £700 from the run to reach my overall target of £2000. It's been a huge team effort and thanks to everyone who has become a part of the team. Together we are supporting Ethiopiaid who have 20 partner organisations dealing with health, education and poverty related issues. Visit my Facebook where there is a video about one of the partner organisations, when you combine all 20 organisations, its exciting to think how many people we are reaching through supporting Ethiopiaid. I will keep everyone up to date from here on in at my blog - www.running-ethiopia.tumblr.com - if anyone has anything they would like to ask at any stage, feel free to fire questions at me. Thanks again to everyone - you are all wonderful!! X

DETAILS

I am fundraising for the 2013 Ethiopiaid Team Challenge. In November, a small team of 16 participants will travel to Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, to take part in an eight-day programme comprising three key challenges:

Training and Development

The team will deliver a carefully designed needs-based training programme to Ethiopiaid’s local charitable partners. The aim of the training programme will be to develop and transfer skills which will help to empower local partners to make a long-term and sustainable difference to the men, women and children they support every day.

The Great Ethiopian Run

The Team will join 37,000 people in a 10k event founded by the legendary Haile Gebreselassie. This is a rare opportunity to participate alongside some of Ethiopia's finest athletes in the home of long-distance running.

Fundraising

Raise crucial funding for Ethiopiaid to support the work of local partners. In 2012 our team covered their costs and raised over £11,000 in funding. The event will also raise £10,000 which will go directly to the work of local partners.

Whilst I know that I will enjoy the experience, this is not a holiday. This is an opportunity to use the education, stability and good health that I have always enjoyed to help those who have not had such luxuries. The team challenge aims to provide a transfer of core skills – ones that we take for granted – that can help to provide a long term benefit for the charities we support and to raise crucial funds for partners. When we leave, we want to have left something meaningful and important.

Ethiopiaid is an incredible charity. They focus their work within Ethiopia and by fundraising solely for causes in this country, they are able to concentrate their funds in one area and use donors money effectively. Indeed, most of Ethiopiaid's 20 partners are located in the country's capital, Addis Ababa, and surrounding areas. This allows an integrated approach to help make a difference for the whole community.

Rather than sending ex-pats to Ethiopia on a permanent basis, Ethiopiaid raises funds for local, Ethiopian-run charities. These organisations can make a great difference for very little money and are the means by which long-term sustainable change can be achieved.

Please feel free to give whatever you are able to some of Ethiopia's poorest people. Of course, I will keep everyone up to date along the way via my blog called Running Ethiopia by clicking here. Together we can make a positive change to many people's lives.
