Little Village supports families with children under five living in poverty across London. We run a baby bank network, collecting and passing on pre-loved clothes and equipment. Parents are also supported by our dedicated signposting and guidance team, who offer advice and links to other services.

Story

Who can families with children turn to in these circumstances?

  • Working families who don't have funds when the boiler breaks
  • Lost jobs/on zero hours due to COVID or ill health?
  • Escaping domestic violence/slavery/homeless with nothing
  • Refugees with no recourse to state funds or support?
  • Unaccompanied Afghan children taking the last spot on the plane, sent to a foreign country, for a safer but uncertain future.

Little Village is a small charity with a big heart of 500+ volunteers. It operates similarly to a food bank but providing a service collecting items, sorting and gifting clothes, toys and equipment for parents with children who have been referred by some 1,800 professionals (a human not online mean's testing ).

More than just alleviating poverty, LV builds local networks facilitating ongoing support to families. It's a Child Poverty campaigner raising awareness for the cause and collaborating on Think Tank projects.

Sustainability and solidarity are core values alongside gifting high quality second hand items with love from one family to another to help them thrive.

LV has been supporting vulnerable people for 5 years. 2020 saw a doubling in families supported due to COVID, some 7K. in recent weeks LV has played a lead role in supporting Afghan refugee families in London, shipping out 500+ care packages in the early days with follow up support.

An extra 200+ volunteers are needed to continue its work in North & South London and Watford; demand is high.

Donations support operation: packaging and delivery and items such as toiletries and mattresses that have to be purchased new.
