Story
Here's a couple of quick facts for you:
1. Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) is the human variant of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (aka. BSE aka. "Mad cow disease").
2. It is fatal. There is currently no known cure.
3. It has a very long incubation period (up to 50 years) - so we still don't know how many people are infected.
I am running to raise money for the CJD Support Network. This wonderful charity provides much-needed support to patients, families and healthcare professionals when this horrible disease rears its head. They also work to raise government awareness and promote research into CJD and prion disease in general.
In spite of all their hard work, the Network receives no government funding - which is why they rely on donations from the public to continue doing the work they do.
I'm taking part in the Great North Run 2014 in an attempt to raise some money and awareness for the Network. Those who know me will understand how much of a big deal this is since I can barely run for a bus! If you would like to make a donation, no matter how small, then you'll have my eternal gratitude. I can assure you that it absolutely will make a difference to somebody, somewhere.
Much love,
Lucy
P.s. the girl in the picture is me, in case you were wondering. I thought it might help if people know what I look like.
