Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm running 10k this summer: the first time I have ever run any sort of distance unless it's for lunch or to catch a bus.

Climb, the charity I am running for, are fighting metabolic diseases through research, and by raising awareness. Climb also supports families like mine.

For those of you who don't know, my older brother Carlo was born with a metabolic disease 30 years ago. Science and research has come a long way since the 80's, but without charities like Climb, these past 30 years would have been a lot harder for my parents.

There are over 1300 different kinds of metabolic diseases around today. In my brother’s case, he was born with the disease, and it has affected his mental development throughout life, meaning he is not able to do many things that a normal 30 year old man might do, like drive a car, write an email or travel somewhere alone. Everything he eats and drinks has to be meticulously monitored, as he maintains a strict level of protein and sugar in his blood. As you can imagine, this takes a lot commitment from the people around him (he’s not able to read and write that well, so doesn’t monitor these things himself).

I want to help Climb carry on with their research, and support of families like mine, by donating anything I can raise this summer.

And once this run is over, we can dance and celebrate life all summer long, starting 2 weekends later, at Secret Garden Party.

ROLL UP FOLKS!

Love & thanks, Lucy x
