Brighton Half Marathon 2011 · 20 February 2011 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On 20th February 2011 I am taking part in the Brighton Half Marathon!!

I have never attempted anything like this before and I am really looking forward to taking part in the race.

I have decided to raise some money for a Charity that has much signifigance for both me and all of my family members.

Two very important members of my family have been unfortunate enough to suffer from a stroke, both very recently and in the past and I would like to raise some money for 'The Stroke Assocation' to show my support and help towards combating strokes in people of all ages.

Please read below some information on The Stroke Assocation:

'Working for a world where there are fewer strokes and all those touched by stroke get the help they need

Every year an estimated 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke. Of all people who suffer from a stroke, about a third are likely to die within the first 10 days, about a third are likely to make a recovery within one month and about a third are likely to be left disabled and needing rehabilitation.

Stroke has a greater disability impact than any other medical condition. A quarter of a million people are living with long-term disability as a result of stroke in the UK.

The Stroke Association is the only UK wide charity solely concerned with combating stroke in people of all ages.

The Stroke Association funds research into prevention, treatment and better methods of rehabilitation, and helps stroke patients and their families directly through its Life After Stroke Services. These include Information, Advice and Support, Communication Support and Life After Stroke grants.

We also campaign, educate and inform to increase knowledge of stroke at all levels of society, and we act as a voice for everyone affected by stroke'.
