Swim Serpentine 2020 · 26 September 2020 ·

London Friend is the UK’s oldest LGBTQ+ charity, providing mental health and wellbeing support since 1972. We offer help and advice to all LGBTQ+ people, providing one-to-one counselling, social support groups; plus, a specialist service Antidote that offers support around drugs and alcohol use.

Story

My resolution for 2020 was to swim more. I started the year, hungover, jumping into the men's pond at Hampstead Heath, then spent January and February at London Fields Lido, training in hopes of becoming a strong enough swimmer to complete Swim Serpentine.

Obviously quite a lot happened in March-July, however now I'm back in the pool and intending to swim the Serpentine in September, social distancing rules permitting! The charity I am raising money for is London Friend.

London Friend provide support services, including therapy and counselling for LGBT+ people in London. Therapy had a hugely positive impact on my life and I'd like to support a service that came help other LGBT+ people who need it.

Update: Unfortunately the Swim Serpentine event has been cancelled due to Covid-19. I will still be swimming the distance in open water, location TBD. Thanks for all the support thus far!
