Luton2Everest Challenge 2018

MeA Everest Challenge 2017 · 20 October 2017
In April 2018, we will be undertaking a 14 day trek to the legendary but notorious Mount Everest.
We are taking the flag from Lutons MeA Community Centre and
travelling to the roof top of the world known as Mount Everest to raise money for a multi facility community center. The trek will take us to Mount Everest Base camp and we plan to go up further to 6000m.
We want sports & recreation facilities plus a Ladies only Gym, a Commercial Kitchen to cook hot nutritional food for the Homeless & Hungry, MeA is a coordination point for volunteers for facilitating Humanitarian aid for the most needy impacted by conflict or natural disasters both here in the UK and abroad, a coffee lounge and libraries; adult education center & much more; everyone can come and feel welcome.
Our trek will begin in the ancient city of Kathamandu and we will fly from Lukla Airport- famously known as ‘The Most Dangerous Airport in the World’. On a daily basis, we will be walking anything between 5-8 hours a day. This will include crossing suspension bridges, walking up steep paths and slowly ascending in to thin air. We will be acclimatising on a daily basis as the air gets thinner and the weather gets colder temperatures can dropped to -50, but we are determined to take the flag where it has not been before.
Eventually, we will reach Mount Everest Base Camp where there is 50% less oxygen than at sea level. If we feel braver, we will go one step further to the Khumbu Glacier Falls which is approx 6000m above sea level and raise the Flag of the Community Center.
Mount Everest is the highest peak on Earth at 8,850 meters
(29’035 feet) above sea level. No other mountain on Earth has a higher
altitude.
We will aim to post updates of our training between now and the trek, and concluding with sharing pictures of Mount Everest as viewed from Base Camp. However, this will be a mountainous (pun intended) effort and we will need you to support and motivate us. Please open your hearts and your (online) pockets and donate so MeA Community Center can continue to support disadvantaged and deprived local & national communities across the UK.
Please sponsor and follow our incredible journey to Everest on here but importantly, get on board - Join the team and help raise the flag!
This expedition consists of local volunteers of MeA Community Center: Sajad Shah, Anjum Shah, Amer Nazir, & Ali Askari & maybe more TBC before 30/03/2018
