We’re Breast Cancer Now, the charity that’s steered by world-class research and powered by life-changing care. We’re here for anyone affected by breast cancer, the whole way through, providing support for today and hope for the future. By 2050, we believe everyone diagnosed with breast cancer will live – and be supported to live well. But we need to act now.

Story

I've never been okay with doing nothing. I always want to take action, however small or insignificant it could be. Doing something always feels better than doing nothing at all.

Welcome to my fundraising page for the Bath Half 2019 - aka my "something" that I can do.

My sister and I decided to create and set up a fund with Breast Cancer Now that would allow us to be selective about the areas of research that our fundraising would contribute to. We did this because, however fantastic the developments in treatment for primary breast cancer have been over the past twenty years, the risk of it later returning as secondary will never go away. For women, and men, all over the world who have experienced the hell of a diagnosis of primary, the risk of secondary bc is something that will hang over them forever. No matter how grateful we all are for the treatments that currently exist, there are many that are yet to be discovered - some of those could have the power to turn a diagnosis of secondary into something other than a life sentence.

This fund is so much bigger than my sister and I, than our hope and our middle-of-the-night fear. It's about the thousands of lives that will be saved when breast cancer stops being a deadly illness and when those affected by it are left alone to enjoy their lives, without fear of a return that they will be powerless to prevent or cure. Breast Cancer Now aim to stop people dying of the disease by 2050. The sooner the better though, right?

Please give what you can. I'm not a runner. I was useless at sports as a child and I didn't improve much with age. I have a huge amount of anxiety about exercise in front of other people and I'm terrified I won't be able to finish this race. But, like I said before, this is bigger than fear. I'd do anything to change things from what they are and, although I can't do that, I can - with an ARMY of legendary humans running the race alongside me as well as those organising other events for our fund - raise enough to change the face of breast cancer in the future.

Thank you x
