Story

Help me support Sarcoma UK

The brutal facts:

Sarcomas are uncommon cancers that can affect any part of the body, on the inside or outside, including the muscle, bone, tendons, blood vessels and fatty tissues

15 people are diagnosed with sarcoma every day
in the UK; that’s about 5300 people a year

The five-year survival rate for sarcoma is 55%

Most people are only diagnosed when their
Sarcoma is the size of a large tin of beans (10cm)

Why am I asking?

I hadn’t heard of Sarcoma until
my amazing Mum, Carole was diagnosed in January 2017.

She was treated in the Royal
Marsden Hospital, London to remove a 6 inch tumour,  one of her kidneys and part of her duodenum in March 2017.

In January 2018 the cancer had returned, this time to her lungs and by May it had spread her liver. She is currently undergoing Chemotherapy which won’t cure her or reduce existing tumours, but it will hopefully prevent the disease invading her body any further.

My Mum’s illness has left me feeling helpless, I can’t make her better, but research into preventing and potentially curing future suffers can. I want to raise awareness of Sarcoma UK’s work so that future generations of daughters or sons don’t have to stand by helpless
wishing and praying there was something they could do to alleviate the pain of their loved one.

Sarcoma survival rates have been very gradually increasing over the last two decades in the UK but more research and hence funding is required to continue the trend.

What am I doing?

Like other patients undergoing chemotherapy my lovely Mum has lost her hair, I intend to “BE BOLD TO BE BALD” and have my head shaved completely.

Friends and family have commented how brave I must be for doing it, but it doesn’t come close to how courageous my Mum has been since her diagnosis and carrying on as if nothing was wrong.

Please support me by donating whatever you can afford; every little helps and together we can make a difference.

Thank You
