Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As many of you know I was diagnosed with primary breast cancer in June 2020 & was told i'd need a double mastectomy, chemo & radiotherapy.  My breast care nurse told me about a local charity who help breast cancer patients and handed me a goody bag of things I'd need after my surgery. This gym bag was full of things I didn't even know I'd need!  They paid for two mastectomy bras and when the time came for chemo I was given ANOTHER goody bag but this time full of stuff to help me through my chemo, it also included a wig stand & a sleep cap, I was even given a voucher to have my eyebrows microbladed. Knowing you can still have eyebrows when you lose all your hair honestly does make such a huge difference.  SO as a thank you I have decided to do a sponsored walk on Tuesday 26th October over the Forth Road Bridge and back to try to raise a wee bit money for them.  As many will know I'm still struggling with fatigue so it will be a challenge but I'm willing to give it a go. 💪If you want to join me the more the merrier (I might need people to carry me back!)🙄 or if you want to give me a wee sponsor that would be fab, it really is for a great charity who have struggled to do their usual fundraising during lockdown 💜💜

About the charity

Breast Friends and Family support breast cancer patients at St John’s Hospital in Livingston, through diagnosis, treatment and recovery; to provide the little things that make a big difference. Breast Friends and Family has been setup by Hazel, her sister Mandy, mother Sylvia and daughter Holly. Hazel was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2015 which shocked the family but the challenges this diagnosis brought were faced with a steely determination to keep life going as normal and provide Hazel with the support she needed through treatment and recovery. The family realised that patients are supported by a number of cancer charities, each one giving additional support that patients are not even aware that they need. They began fund raising, by dancing, running, walking, knitting, sewing and organising events in support of many cancer charities. Hazel was given lots of support from a local charity based at St John’s Hospital in Livingston. As she recovered she wanted to help and support this local charity so that others like her, having a breast cancer diagnosis, were helped in the way that she was. Sadly this charity is no longer running. Hazel and her family and friends are now determined to make sure that all patients diagnosed with breast cancer at St John’s, are given the kind of help they don’t even realise they need. Providing the little things that make a big difference.
