The Kenya Children’s Trust gives children living in Gataka (a slum on the outskirts of Nairobi) an alternative to a very desperate, and often short, life. With free schooling and a meal each day, our school provides 3-6 year olds with their first step to a better, more hopeful future.

Story

While the Kenya Children's Trust do their Bristol-Bath fancy dress bike ride on the 26th of September... I'm going to be riding my bike to Portugal! But since I wanted to be involved sooo badly... I'm going to dress in fancy dress that day and share in the love and FUNDRAISING :-D

My ride is going to be 100s of miles over 4 weeks, from Bristol - Portsmouth (then a ferry to Santander, no that's not really cheating), then Santander over the mountains and wherever my wheels take me.

Kenya Children's Trust is about the most amazing charity I've ever come across. No one takes a wage, there is no overhead. Every penny goes toward building a school in the slums in Kenya, to give the street children a chance in life.

Living conditions in the area are extremely harsh with a high rate of alcoholism, crime, prostitution, rape, HIV and Aids. Many of the area's inhabitants are single-parent families and due to extreme poverty, many of the children do not attend school due to lack of parental guidance or care as they are orphans, have been abandoned, or left by a parent in the slum when they go in search of work. Children as young as 3 years old have no option but to fend for themselves on the street and are constantly subjected to exploitation, rape, alcoholism and crime.
