Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The last time I ran 13.1 miles was in 2016 for the Great North Run. Four years on, and I am here again, however, this time I shall be running alone as this year’s Great North Run has been cancelled. This time I am supporting a worthwhile and deserving charity, which happens to be local and very special to me, Mayflower Animal Sanctuary.

The 8th December 2017 was a very special day as my partner and I fostered Blake, a Miniature Pinscher. Mayflower had rescued him from a municipal pound in Cyprus and upon his arrival into the UK he was diagnosed with a cardiac condition ‘Degenerative Mitral Valve’ disease. This is treatable with medication, however, it was recognised that his life would be cut short. On 20th January of this year, Blake unfortunately lost his battle with this condition.

We have both lost pets before so appreciate how traumatic and upsetting it is, however, with Blake it was different and has been so much harder coming to terms  with, perhaps because of the amount of care and attention he needed. We did so much with him, wanting to give him the quality of life he truly deserved. He was so brave and a real fighter, but the time came when we had to put him to sleep. We have endless happy memories of our ‘little man’. He was very much loved by everyone that knew him. He may be gone from our sight, but never our memories, gone from our touch, but never our hearts. I’ve included a few of the many photographs we have of him at the bottom of this page, please take a look....

Although we contributed towards Blake’s medical costs, this did not cover them all, especially the numerous times we had to take him to the vets, including the out of hours emergency vets.

After Blake’s passing, I decided that I needed something positive to focus on, and at the same time wanted to support the great work that Mayflower Animal Sanctuary does. So I decided to enter the Great North Run, not only to raise funds for Mayflower, but also in memory of Blake - both of which will get me to the finish line!

Annually, the Mayflower Sanctuary rescue and rehome over 400 dogs and 90 cats. Last year their vets bill was £33,000! Without support and donations this would have been impossible to achieve.

Providing a safe haven for dogs and cats since 2003, and working tirelessly 365 days a year, Mayflower Animal Sanctuary are a worthwhile and deserving charity. Please help me to raise funds for them. Your support will mean so much. Thank you in advance.
