Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Hi we are Lynsey and Sophie, we have stage four Endometriosis. We met because of our matching tennis ball sized cysts and having surgery at the same time.. we became cysters..and for the first time in a few years Lynsey feels well enough to take part in the walk for endo challenge to raise money for Endometriosis UK.
We will be doing the challenge with Lynn, Laura and Nicola, walking 8k steps a day representing the average of 8 years that it takes to receive a diagnosis of endo.
For some it takes even longer..
Lynsey’s story:
Personally I have had Endometriosis symptoms since I was 11 years old, my main symptoms being crippling pains and losing so much blood that I became anaemic. I was miss diagnosed for many years with just period pain as my endometriosis wasn’t showing up on ultrasounds and I didn’t receive my diagnosis until I reached stage 4 with widespread endo and cysts the size of tennis balls making me extremely unwell. I had to fight to be listened to. I was told that the pain was all in my head and I searched for my own diagnosis by saving up to pay privately for an MRI which lead to me being offered surgery on the NHS to separate my organs which had become stuck together with lesions.
The treatment of Endometriosis just isn’t good enough. It usually begins to present itself with pains similar to but more intense than period pain and has become too easy to fob off as a women’s problem and we hope to one day find a cure.
Sophie’s story:
After being diagnosed back in August 2021 and having the what I can only describe as an absolute rollercoaster of emotions after discovering that I had a cyst in my ovaries and would have to wait 92 weeks for an operation to have it removed…with the nhs…
An absolute miracle happened- I was giving the incredible opportunity to have the surgery,I spoke to a consultant and the journey began- it was an absolute whirlwind but without that whirlwind I wouldn’t be where I am today- and I will always be so incredibly grateful for the circumstances that occurred..
I am in no way “cured” having since found two new cysts.. and still having flare ups and having to change my diet and my way of my life.. has been incredibly hard and this is only my journey and everyone’s in different…
But by sharing my story I want to raise awareness of the different ways and experiences people with Endometriosis have and the things they go through everyday.
We are grateful for anything that you can donate..
Thank you xxx
