Hello everyone, and firstly thank you for taking the time to read our page.

Unfortunately, the sad reality is that every day in the UK about 16 people take their own lives, that’s about 6,000 each year. Last year UK suicide rates were recorded to have risen, with the greatest increase for women under 25. Men are at extremely high risk of this tragedy and are currently three times more likely to die by suicide than women. Suicide is the single largest killer of men under 45 in the UK. These statistics are both startling and upsetting but have really opened our eyes to the shear crisis occurring in front of us.

It is for this reason that we wish to support Samaritans as our chosen charity for the Brighton Marathon 2020. Whilst we’ve not had direct engagement with the charity ourselves, we both know only too well people around us who sadly could have benefited from their services. The situation of having to wait months for mental health support just isn’t suitable when it comes to a person in crisis, which is why the charity’s emphasis of being there 24 hours a day, 365 days a year when it matters most is a vision we can wholeheartedly back.
