ACEF supports the education and health of over 900 vulnerable children who attend Brainhouse Academy, in the slums of Mathare North, Kenya. Facilities are very basic, however our kids are secure, being fed and receive an excellent education giving them a chance to lift themselves from poverty.

Story

Manchester Communication Academy (MCA) is a brand new high school in Harpurhey, North Manchester. Since opening in September 2010 we have partnered with The Brainhouse Academy, a school with 900 children in theMathare North slum of Nairobi, Kenya. 200 of these children are street orphans. The school is supported by the charity ACEF. One of the main aims of the partnership is to support the teaching and learning within The Brainhouse to ensure their students havethe best opportunity to progress into further education and employment. However, following our first study tour in August 2011, it was apparent that feeding the children was the number one priority, given that with enough food not being guaranteed to feed theirstudents, it is very difficult for the teachers and staff to concentrate fully on teaching and learning developments.

Therefore MCA decided to put fundrasing for the school feeding programme at the forefront of our work with ACEF and Brainhouse. We are fundraising mainly via community events howeverare welcoming donations from staff and the wider community. Our aim is to raise enough funds so that every child in The Brainhouse Academy can eat every day, all year round, which equates to approximately £15,000 Please help us achieve this goal.
