Story

Welcome to our JustGiving page,

On the 22nd June this year myself, Tom Carter and Tom Olver will be attempting the iconic cycle ride from one end of the UK to the other, the infamous John O’ Groats to Land’s End. The route has been planned by our chief of transportation Robert Mosley and will see us cover around 1000 miles of some of the UK’s most challenging cycling routes.

We’ll be doing this in the hope of raising money for a very important charity, MIND, who do some astonishing work caring for those suffering with mental health issues. And with one in four of us experiencing a mental health problem, it is essential that the hundreds of thousands of people that are struggling without support are reached by the services MIND provides. MIND ‘believe no one should have to face a mental health problem alone’ as they provide phone support lines, ‘local minds’ community projects and tackle stereotypes through anti-stigma campaigns such as ‘Time to Change’ (visit : time-to-change.org.uk). Too many people are made to feel ashamed and isolated because of a mental health problem.

I have my own personal experiences with mental health problems; during my university life i had many difficult periods where i found it near impossible to survive with such demands on my work/life balance and the complex physical, mental and social experiences that come with being a student living away from home. Thankfully, with the support from my friends, particularly those that i am doing this challenge alongside amongst others i was able to get back on track and go from hospital bed to my graduation day, something i once thought impossible.

Others are not as fortunate as me, and do not have such understanding and helpful friends, so it is vital that people struggling with their mental health have access to counselling MIND help provide. Isolation can often prove fatal with regards to mental health and counselling is something i whole-heartedly advise everyone to have, whether you think your problems are big or small.

Please donate as much as you can afford, it would mean the world to all of us as we tackle this gruelling challenge together this summer. With your support we can move closer to achieving MIND’s mission statement : ’We won't give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect’.
