Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team is one of the busiest in the UK with an annual callout rate of over 220 incidents. Based in and around the Snowdon area the team is made up of about 50 volunteers from all walks of life who are all experienced mountaineers. As a registered charity, they rely entirely on donations to carry out the work they do in helping other mountain users.
Martyn Garner was an avid fundraiser, and also passionate about the mountains and outdoor pursuits. We decided to pay tribute to him by taking on what, for many of us, will be an immensely difficult physical challenge. Cycling the 170 miles from Solihull School to our Mountain Cottage in Snowdonia over three days, climbing a total of some 12,000 feet of hills, will not be easy, but we intend to give it our best shot in memory of our friend and colleague.
