Story
Thank you for visting our page.
What are we doing?
At 6:00am on May 1st 2015, we (Paul McLear and Chris Poots) will be embarking on a 1000 mile cycle from Santander House, Milton Keynes to Santander group headquarters in Madrid.
Carrying all our equipment on the bikes, we will be camping along the way through France and the Pyrenees.
We are hoping to provide updates on this page en route so ensure you check back for updates...
Why (on earth)?
We hope that by undertaking this challenge, we can raise money for those who face much greater challenges in life, such as those supported by Wakisa.
Wakisa is a rape and pregnancy crisis centre based in Kampala, Uganda. They provide shelter and offer support, safety and counselling to young girls who have suffered traumatic experiences. These are often at the hands of family members or rebel militia in East Africa.
I (Chris) have visited the centre in Kampala twice to help with out with building and from talking to the girls have heard first hand some of their stories and witnessed the great work underway at Wakisa. I was touched by the strength of character and determination the girls show.
Wakisa's work only continues because of people like you providing financial support. Wakisa is supported in the UK through Kilkeel Presbyterian Church, based in Ireland.
What can you do?
Please help us to raise £5,000 towards funding the building of a well to provide a fresh water supply as well as the remaining funds helping to support the day to day running of the centre. All you need to do is donate.
All funds donated go directly to the charity and the costs involved in the cycling trip is coming out of our own pockets.
Many thanks for your support!
