Story

I’ve had very long hair for a very long time. Now the time has come to shave it off in the name of charity. I could ask you all to donate to me so I can buy a hat to keep me warm this winter (it’s going to be a shock), but instead there are two charities I want to help.

The Little Princess Trust and St Paul’s Research Foundation.

St Paul’s Research Foundation

Any money raised will go to St Paul’s Research Foundation.

In July 2020 the vision in my right eye went blurry. I put it down to tiredness, but it got worse over the next 48 hours and my vision in that eye appeared pixelated with little blurry dots. After a call with my GP I was sent straight to A&E, and from there St Paul’s Eye Unit in Liverpool, where I was told I’d had a Retinal Vein Occlusion – basically an eye stroke.

You never want to hear that you’re going to have an injection in the eye, and you never get used to it. After loads of scans and tests, 15+ injections and laser surgery, some of the damage has been repaired and I’ve learned how to manage my sight in different situations. It’ll never get back to 100% but it’s better than that first day I went to hospital.

The treatment I’ve received at St Paul’s has been incredible. It was a very scary time to begin with, and all the staff have been great at putting me at ease. Every time I visit it is evident how much work is being put in to make sure every patient is well looked after and receiving the best treatment possible. I want to give back to help them raise funds towards curing eye disease and preventing sight-loss.

Hair Donation

Alongside the donation I will donate my luscious locks to The Little Princess Trust. They provide free real-hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions. There is a lot of hair for me to give, so I want to make sure it is doing some good and not just clogging up the plug hole in our shower and disgusting my wife. If anything, you should all be donating
to her to receive psychological treatment for years dealing with that.
