Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
This trip began when we moved to Broadstairs, the town at the east end of the South Coast. We wanted to travel by bus all the way to Land's End.
It was planned as a holiday, but after becoming involved with MNDA in East Kent, we thought it could be turned into a fund raising and awareness event.
We will be travelling for 15days, attending 17 functions along the way. Each event will raise funds and/or awareness of MND in every place we visit. The waiting is over, our plans are in place, now we are hoping for good weather and successful events.
You can see where we visiting from our blog page http://mnda-eastkent.org.uk/wordpress/?p=650 which we will update regularly. We will be regularly updating this page as well as our Blog Page.
You can also follow us on https://twitter.com/MNDAEastKent or https://twitter.com/hashtag/greatsouthcoastroadtrip?src=hash alternately on https://www.facebook.com/MNDA.East.Kent or https://www.facebook.com/greatsouthcoastroadtrip/
We hope to raise £10,000 for persons living with MND in East Kent. We hope also that groups and branches along the way will raise funds for use in their local area.
About motor neurone disease (MND) and the MND Association:
• MND is a fatal, rapidly progressive disease that affects the brain and spinal cord.
• It attacks the nerves that control movement; people can still think and feel, but their muscles refuse to work.
• It can leave people locked in a failing body, unable to move, talk, and eventually, breathe.
• It affects people from all communities.
• It kills five people every day in the UK - 30% within a year and more than 50% within 2 years of diagnosis
• It has no cure.
The MND Association was founded in 1979 by a group of volunteers with experience of living with or caring for, someone with MND. Since then, we have grown significantly, with an ever-increasing community of volunteers, supporters and staff, all sharing the same goal - to support people with MND and everyone who cares for them, both now and in the future.
Our mission
• We improve care and support for people with MND, their families and carers.
• We fund and promote research that leads to new understanding and treatments and brings us closer to a cure for MND.
• We campaign and raise awareness so the needs of people with MND, and everyone who cares for them, are recognised and addressed by wider society.
Our vision
A world free of MND
