Story

UPDATE: We won the event, coming first in 18hrs 34minutes. Thanks to everyone donating so far for your support.

To celebrate a decade of delivering your surf forecast Team MSW will be attempting the UK’s toughest footrace in support of local charity Lifeworks, who provide free surfing experience days for young people with learning difficulties.

The Endurancelife Ultra Trail South West is amongst the most challenging, non stop, off road, point to point trail races in the world. Running 100 miles along the coast path from Porthleven to Watergate Bay past some of the South West’s main surfing beaches. MSW will also be using this opportunity to raise awareness of the good work keeping our beaches clean by Surfers Against Sewage.

Local charity Lifeworks is a small group of dedicated individuals devoted to providing: sporting opportunities including surfing lessons, respite care, education and life skills to children and young adults with learning difficulties.

“A little goes a long way with these guys so imagine what they could do with a lot.” Said MSW ‘s Ben Freeston. We’re so lucky to be able to enjoy surfing and the ocean and want to give something back, it’s a privilege to extend that experience to those who might not otherwise have the chance.”

The event itself The GHC Relay: The Golden Hammer Challenge pits teams of four (minimum) or five persons (maximum) over 100 off-road miles on foot in one continuous attempt passing a hammer from runner to runner at each transition. It is up to the teams to decide how far and how often each team member will run. The team that carries their hammer from start to finish in the fastest time wins The Golden Hammer!

Regardless who wins with your support the real winners will be deserving children and their parents getting to experience the ocean and surfing for the first time. To help make this a reality for as many children as possible please do consider donating whatever you can afford at our justgiving page
