St. James's Place Foundation Triathlon in aid of Hope and Homes for Children · 3 October 2010 ·

5.4 million children across the world are currently trapped in orphanages – even though 80% of them have family they could live with if they had the right support. Orphanages harm children, depriving them of love and exposing them to abuse. Your support helps us get children to back to family.

Story

We finished it and made it across the line with no injuries!!

If you were waiting for us to actually compete and finish and would still like to make a donation to such a great cause, you are in luck, the donation page is still active.

Thank you all for the support, well wishes and words of encouragement they were needed to pull through to cross that finish line.

Sunday Ocotber 3rd 2010 will see 2 of MVCI's finest competing in a sprint Triathlon...surprised? We were!!

Read on to find out why we're putting our physical stamina up for ridicule:

All the money raised from the triathlon we are taking part in will be spent on programmes across Central and Eastern Europe and Africa run by the Hope and Homes for Children Charity.

What they do:

Hope and Homes for Children’s mission is to give hope to the poorest children in the world – those who are orphaned, abandoned or vulnerable – by enabling them to grow up within the love of a family and the security of a home, so they can fulfil their potential.

Transforming children’s lives
Home for over one million children in Central and Eastern Europe is a bleak state-run institution, where facilities rarely even meet their most basic needs. For more than a decade Hope and Homes have been advocating and implementing the closure of these institutions, providing children with a safe and loving family environment in which to grow up and working to prevent child abandonment.

In Africa, poverty, HIV/AIDS and the legacy of war have decimated entire communities, leaving many children growing up alone. These children face a desolate future without any adult support and guidance. Hope and Homes for Children has developed an innovative model of support that works in partnership with local communities to help prevent family breakdown and enable self-sufficiency.

Hope and Homes for Children is a really worthwhile charity, for more information about what they do please visit their website: www.hopeandhomes.org. They are a registered charity, their charity number is 1089490.
