Story
The conflict in Syria began in the summer of 2011, bringing years of systemic warfare. Four years on the crisis has made its way to Europe. In saying this, UN statistics state that 80% of the world’s refugees are in the developing world with a greater number of people displaced within their own countries than elsewhere. Despite these facts, the situation in Europe seems to be unmanageable and a great deal of concern is being had for onset of winter. Refugees are also arriving from Afghanistan, a country subjected to protracted warfare with civilians intermittently under attack from the Taliban, who had captured the city of Kunduz until recently. Moreover, the continued turmoil in Iraq has been reinforced with the rise of ISIS, causing a greater wave of migration from those fleeing Islamic State, including Syrians who had initially sought refugee in the region. To try and better the situation in any way we can Maaria and I are travelling to Macedonia in November with Al-Khair to deliver aid and other supplies to assist those who have arrived and enable them to safely survive the winter.
