Bupa Great South Run 2010 · 24 October 2010 ·

We’re the only charity fighting to end child abuse in the UK and Channel Islands. That’s why we help children who’ve been abused to rebuild their lives, we protect children at risk, and we find the best ways of preventing child abuse from ever happening.

Story

Hi Everyone,

Final update! Well I did it!

A great day although apparently I have been so full of nervous energy and an absolute nightmare to live with for the last 3 days! Paid off though, I did the 10 miles in 1 hour, 43 minutes and 39 seconds. So pleased as I was aiming for 1.45 - 1.50. For those runners out there, I managed PBs in 5k and 10k along the way of 26.17 and 56.57! Pictured with me is my lovely friend Julie followed by the all important support team! There is a picture of me at 9 miles - bit grim - but the website keeps crashing when I try to upload it so it must be even worse than I thought!

Huge thanks to everyone who has donated. Looking around all the charity runners today all seem so important, it's hard to choose who to support. But this £1000 or so will enable a Childline help line to be manned for a good few days, or maybe it will help extract a child from a dangerous home environment. Who knows, worth a few aches and pains anyway.

Thank you and au revoir.

Mxxx

Thank you so much for all your generous support! I know that there are many of you who are still intending to sponsor me - please do it now whilst your on my page - I will run that little bit harder and be in that little bit more pain if I can raise £750! Honest!

The BUPA Great South Run is being televised on Channel 5 this Sunday 30th October and there is a highlights programme on Channel 4 in the evening. I seriously hope not to be a "Bloomer" falling over my own feet or generally embarrassing myself or worse but you never know! I have done lots of training and am probably fitter than I have ever been so hopefully all will be well! I will be running in a green NSPCC vest and bright purple cap with co-ordinating red face (!),  race number 23054, which will be vaguely near the back! Please switch on and try to spot me and whilst your at it, sponsor me to raise funds for this amazing cause which seeks to eliminate child cruelty, full stop. See below for reasons why this is important to me.

Thanks again to everyone who has been bothered to sponsor me so far. Really appreciate it!

Anyway, must dash (!) Mx

On 30th October 2011 I shall be donning my trainers and my co-ordinating running wear and undertaking the Bupa Great South Run in aid of the NSPCC! To those of you who know me from the old days, this will come as a great surprise!

Why the NSPCC? Simply that I think sometimes we forget that there are children in this country who endure poverty, ignorant parenting, neglect and abuse every day of their lives. Most survive, somehow, but not all. Dealing with the aftermath of such abuse is the last resort; stopping it from happening in the first place by means of education and active intervention is the best way. Your donations will make a difference, even if only to one child's life experience.

This is a 10 mile (yes, 10 mile!) run in Portsmouth. I believe it will be on the telly. I shall probably be somewhere near the back wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses!

Please give generously - I have never done anything like this before so this is probably your one and only chance to sponsor me to do anything remotely worthwhile!

Running pics will be added when I can get one where I don't look like I'm about to peg it! Thx M
