Story
Dear Friends,
Most of you know that our daughter Maja was born with a genetic skin condition called Congenital Melanocytic Naevi (CMN). While she is a beautiful and happy little girl, CMN is often the root cause of very serious neurological problems, malignant melanoma, as well as considerable emotional strain.
The good news is that there is a fantastic charity called Caring Matters Now (www.caringmattersnow.co.uk) which, not only offers support and advice to those suffering from CMN, but crucially also funds clinical research into this condition. This work, unique in the world, is being led by Veronica Kinsler, an amazing pediatric dermatologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Four years ago we raised, thanks to the extraordinary generosity of friends and family, just under £13,000 (!) to support Dr Kinsler's work. These funds have enabled Dr Kinsler to carry out an entire new strand of research, the results of which have been so encouraging that trials for potential treatments are due to begin soon.
As time is of the essence for those affected by CMN, Caring Matters Now has launched a campaign to raise £50,000 to pay for a medical researcher to work alongside Dr Kinsler, which will help her immensely and drastically speed up the CMN research.
To help achieve this goal, we will be rolling back the years, lacing up our trainers and heading to the Big Apple for the 2014 NYC marathon. Our target: to somehow cover 42.2km of New York concrete and get to the finish line. Our aim: to raise £5,000 and help Caring Matters Now in its endeavour to accelerate clinical research into CMN and get us closer to a cure that can help Maja and all those suffering from this condition for the rest of their lives.
Thank you very much.
