The Cause
Back in 2009 you may recall my friend Hesham Abdalla and I cycled 400 miles over 4 days from London to Paris to raise funds for the Sakina Children's Village. Your generosity helped raise £30,000 for the children of Mali, which remains the world's third poorest country (MPI).
Since then the project has gone from strength to strength with the official opening of the Village in March 2011, and the first two groups of orphaned and vulnerable children already enjoying the security and family life in Sakina - Alhamdulillah. The story, however, doesn't end there: the second phase of the project is the school, this is where enter the scene again. Your help will mean school buildings within the Village, and an end to the young children trekking 5-10 miles through rough terrain to get to the nearest school.
The Challenge
So here goes: on 22nd June this year I aim to cycle 450 miles from London to Edinburgh in a NON-STOP relay ride. That's right, no sleep. The ride will take approx 38 hours from start to the finish at Edinburgh Castle, during which time Hesham and I will take it in turns to relay ride throughout the night on two hour shifts. More details of the challenge can be found here. It's an extremely challenging event requiring careful planning, preparation and plenty of talcum powder. To give you an idea, approx 150 of us rode to Paris last time whereas only 20 of us will be braving the ride to Edinburgh.
Funds
Raising just under £30,000 last time was a wonderful achievement, but this year we plan to exceed this amount. Village Sakina qualifies for Zakah donations, so please bear this in mind.
