Story
In August, after a long battle with cancer, my dad, Thomas John Ponton, passed away in the Margaret Kerr Unit at the Borders General Hospital.
The Margaret Kerr Unit is a palliative care unit, who specialise in care for both cancer patients and patients with other life limiting illnesses. The specialist care team provide support to patients in the unit, at home, in community hospitals and elsewhere in the Borders General Hospital. The Unit itself is small, with 8 private rooms and a calm, homely atmosphere. Being in the Margaret Kerr Unit rather than a hospital ward really made an immeasurable difference to dad's final days. The Unit is funded by a local charity 'The Difference' that exists to enhance patient care in the Scottish Borders.
James and I want to do something tough to raise funds for the Margaret Kerr Unit and we thought the Glentress Trail Half Marathon on Sunday 20th November would be a good challenge for us both. It is a completely off-road trail half marathon with 750m of ascent, that incorporates several long and continuous steep slopes for over 500m on a variety of forest track and singletrack sections. http://www.highterrainevents.co.uk/glentress-winter-half
We will be training hard over the next couple of months, so please show us your support by making a donation however small or large to the Margaret Kerr Unit.
Thanks
Mandy and James
