STEP is a local charity providing support for young people in Swindon, who experience isolation and exclusion, due to behaviour, personal circumstances or poverty. Therapeutic group work is used to deliver life and social skills, to encourage young people to make a positive contribution to society.

Story

Mara Soto – Fundraising Walk

They say that childhood and the years you have at school are the best times of your life, but for some of Swindon’s children and young people they are the most challenging. That’s why this October I will embark on a 130 mile walk to raise funds for Swindon 10 to 18 Project (STEP), a local charity that has been supporting children and young people from across the Borough for the last 33 years.

STEP provides tailor-made therapeutic group work for young people aged 7 to 18, enabling them to work through issues identified at their point of referral that are negatively affecting their lives and the lives of those around them.

The young people are some of the most vulnerable in our society, including those who have experienced physical & emotional abuse, neglect, mental health issues, poverty and deprivation, as well as isolation and exclusion.

The money raised will provide therapeutic and play resources that directly support the therapeutic work they provide, enhancing the experience for all those who engage with the service.

Bullying is a big issue these days and I am raising money for Step in order to help more young people.
