Amputee Snowdon Challenge 2018 · 30 May 2018

STEEL BONES is a volunteer led charity worign with over 1400 amputees across the UK. A community of thousands including their family members.

Story

On 30th May 2018 myself and some other amputees, plus some family members and close friends will set off on an amazing challenge to be part of the first amputee group to climb Mount Snowdon in order to raise the funds that 'Steel Bones' needs to continue offering the invaluable support to amputees and their families across the UK.
I have had the pleasure of personally seeing  the great work 'Steel Bones' (a voluntary charity), have done for amputees and their families across the UK to connect the amputee community, create friendships and provide a proactive support network by giving latest news on health, promoting healthy lifestyles, signposting useful services, experts and sports clubs along with providing flexible careers opportunities.
The key focus for 'Steel Bones' is to offer support to new amputees, and their families - offering the guidance and companionship that they so often need, at often the most traumatic time. There are 5,000 new amputees each year in the UK.

I considered many charities that I could, or should raise funds for, but I have seen the great work 'Steel Bones' are doing and I want to help them to help other amputees.  This is the very first time I have asked anyone to sponsor me or donate to a cause that I believe in so I hope many of my friends will want to give to this cause :)

My own personal story is that I had my whole leg removed in 2004 when a rare form of bone cancer (Chondrosarcoma) was detected 44 years after I was diagnosed with an even more rare condition called 'Ollier's Disease' shortly after my birth.  I have never allowed my 'disability' define me as a person and I see Mount Snowdon as yet another challenge that will hopefully be life changing for all involved!

I will be ascending Snowdon without my prosthetic leg and using crutches only.
