Prudential RideLondon-Surry 100 · 31 July 2016 ·
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page! I have been given the incredible honour of a place in the Cancer Research UK team for the 2016 Prudential RideLondon - Surrey 100 Race on the 31st of July.
Cancer affects everyone - with more people being diagnosed today than ever before - taking a tremendous toll on patients, families and society.
However, the research carried out at CRUK continues to improve survival rates and their current aim is to see 2 in 3 people survive cancer by 2030. CRUK operates without any government funding. Therefore, donations, however big or small, are needed to achieve their goal.
I have sadly lost several family members to this horrible disease and some are still fighting bravely to this day.
In the winter of 2014, I witnessed an aggressive form of prostate cancer take my grandfather Peter Stroux from this earth far too soon. Not six months later, my uncle Adrian Bullen lost his battle of over two years with brain and lung cancer at just 49 years old. It was at this point I decided that I wanted to turn my words of support into actions.
I have always been very actively involved in sport and fitness and I am beyond pleased that I am able to combine this with supporting a powerful and deeply important cause!
In addition to RideLondon, I will also be competing in the 2015 Bloodwise Blenheim Palace Triathlon on June 4th. Bloodwise are the UK's specialist blood cancer charity (another excellent charity and well worth donating to!)
At great risk to my personal appearance and vanity, I have decided that if we raise over £1,000 I will let my housemates Jed Osborne, Sam Tresidder, and Tom Wintle give me a haircut/hairstyle of their choice after completion of RideLondon. I do hope that this convinces a few more of you to donate as I can imagine that they will not be giving me a 'short back and sides'!
I will be giving training and race updates on my Facebook page so that I can share my journey with you all!
Again, thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
