Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

Hello, my name is Marie Cassidy and I am running the BUPA Great Birmingham run on behalf of the Stroke Association.

This year in March, I suffered from a functional weakness stroke and I found it difficult when going through the recovery process; it felt as if there was always somebody coming to see me whether this be a physio or an occupational health therapist. I was given the news that I might not fully recover but, with my determination I carried on the long road to recovery which consisted of a few blips along the way.

The doctors do not accept that a functional weakness stroke is classified as a stroke and I had to battle with them in order to get the help in which I needed. The Stroke Association were the people that nursed me back to health and do not receive enough funding and recognition for their work which they do. I am hoping to raise £100 or more for this charity in which the money raised can help just one person gain the right equipment which they need to recover from a stroke.
